14. ADR Driver Training Certificate (DTC) – Initial (4-5 Days)
To be legally qualified to drive a vehicle carrying in-scope dangerous goods, a driver must be in possession of an ADR Driver Training Certificate issued under appropriate GB or NI regulations. An ADR Driver Training Certificate is valid for five years from the date of issue.
The regulations require drivers engaged in the carriage of dangerous goods to be given adequate instruction and training. This is to enable them to understand the nature of the dangers to which particular dangerous goods being carried may give rise, the action to be taken in an emergency concerning them and their duties under the Health & Safety at Work, etc Act.
To qualify for an ADR Driver Training Certificate, drivers must undertake a course of training at a centre approved by the Department for Transport and pass the examinations relevant to the classes of dangerous goods to be carried.

15. ADR Driver Training Certificate – Refresher (3 Days)
This course is for drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods who hold a Driver Training Certificate (DTC) which is due to expire. Refresher training and examination must be undertaken at least 6 weeks prior to the expiry date of the DTC. Drivers can, however, attend approved courses up to 12 months prior to the expiry date of the DTC and on successful completion, the new DTC will commence from the expiry date of the original certificate. Logistics UK recommends that all drivers attend approved courses well in advance of the expiry date of the DTC.
ADR Refresher training qualifies for 7 hours Driver CPC.

This 1 day in-company course will emphasise the importance of understanding the legislation, risks and hazards associated with receiving deliveries of petroleum products on site.

The ‘Return to Driving’ Driver CPC was introduced by the DVSA to enable drivers to return to professional driving if their National or International Driver CPC qualification has expired for a period of between 60 days and 2 years.
